It was the birthplace in 1419 of Don Juan Pacheco, first Marques de Villena, who ordered the construction of the present Castle Belmonte. Cuenca is a truly original city hewn out of rock. The hotel's large windows overlook the famous Casas Colgadas (hanging houses) set on the rocks flanking Hoz del Huecar in implausible positions. It is a notable example of the late gothic style. There are 62 rooms distributed over 3 floors, the second being the largest. Some of the rooms have views over the cloister, but the most solicited are the ones overlooking the city, gorges and hanging houses. Visitors can sample the typical Cuencan cuisine, which is tasty and spicy reflecting the region's hunting and fishing. To accompany the meals there are excellent wines. In addition, one can sample the typical Cuencan Resoli liquor, made of spirits, coffee and sugar. The lobby is medium in size and decorated as the rest of the hotel in tune with its historical settings. The lobby features elaborate coffered ceilings, original pulpits.

Visitors will be charmed by this unique Posada and appreciate the harmony of decoration and its superb situation. All is tranquility and peacefulness in this little wonder which is found in the old quarter which was designated a World Heritage in 1996. Tastefully furnished bedrooms in a traditional style with en-suite bathroom and in accordance with the surrounding architectural features of the building. There are different sized rooms due to the structure of the building there are standard and superior which have balcony or window overlooking the garden or river gorge. Each has its own character and all of them are cosy and welcoming. In the cosy dining room delicious breakfast can be enjoyed while admiring the views. In the dining rooms also a wide variety of traditional tapas and local dishes, accompanied by excellent regional wines, are available. Weather permitting, meals can be served in the terrace. Much better booking in advance for dinner since it gets packed with hotel guests and locals. Not available for luch service. The lobby area is small and spartan with the charm of an old and well looked after building such as this posada. The main door leads to a little lobby turning to the left teh main looby and reception area is found.
